One of the current hot buttons around the country is Agenda 21. For those unfamiliar with it, it is “a comprehensive plan of extreme environmentalism, social engineering, and global political control that was initiated at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1992.”
That descriptive quote comes from a recently passed Joint Resolution from the 107th Tennessee General Assembly (GA), HJR 587, condemning Agenda 21 and exposing some of its more dangerous and anti-American foundational principles. In condemning Agenda 21, the Tennessee General Assembly is joining together with both grassroots groups nationwide and also a broad swath of Republican organizations who have also condemned the plan. The Republican National Committee (RNC) recently condemned Agenda 21. Locally, the Williamson County Republican Party issued a statement in solidarity with the RNC’s position. Even Democrats are getting on board in opposing Agenda 21.
Clearly, opposition to Agenda 21 is one of the few issues with broad appeal across the political spectrum; horizontally in crossing party lines and vertically from Washington DC to the Grassroots.
For good reason. Agenda 21 is a bad idea. Per the General Assembly’s resolution, Agenda 21 “…views the American way of life of private property ownership, single-family homes, private car ownership and individual travel choices, and privately owned farms all as destructive to the environment … [contends] social justice is described as the right and opportunity of all people to benefit equally from the resources afforded us by society and the environment which would be accomplished by socialist/communist redistribution of wealth; and … [believes] national sovereignty is deemed a social injustice.”
While HJR587 is merely a resolution and does not carry the force of law in Tennessee, it reflects the sense of thinking in the Tennessee legislature about the matter and is a part of the GA’s intent to work to ensure “that the federal government and state and local governments across the country be well informed of the underlying harmful implications of implementation of United Nations Agenda 21 destructive strategies for āsustainableĀ development.”"
Given all of this, it is most disappointing that in the face of actions by a prestigious national GOP organization, the Tennessee legislature, local GOP and grassroots groups in opposition to Agenda 21 that a GOP Governor in one of the reddest states in the Union, Tennessee’s Bill Haslam, has chosen not to join such a broad coalition. When HJR 587 was sent to Haslam for his signature, he refused to sign it, opting instead to simply let the legislature make its position known and declining to support it.
The final language of the Resolution was posted this morning at the Tennessee Secretary of State’s website. It lists the House and Senate sponsors, and the language of the Resolution. It features the signatures of both Speaker of the House Beth Harwell and Lt Governor and Speaker of the Senate Ron Ramsey. There is a place for Governor Haslam’s signature. It is blank.
I’m unclear on why the Governor has refused to sign the Resolution. He has not issued a statement on the matter.
But doing so gives ammunition to those believing the Governor is less than a reliable ally on basic issues. Taken alone, perhaps it could be explained away. In conjunction with actions such as his veto of the Vanderbilt Religious Freedom bill, it makes it harder to argue Haslam is a Governor of the People and not a representative of the establishment.
In fact, given the establishment and the People are in agreement on Agenda 21 and Haslam is out of step with both groups, the whole thing becomes even more confusing.
Haslam has refused to condemn Agenda 21. Just exactly where does that put him on the political map? I don’t know. Perhaps a statement from Governor Haslam explaining his decision would help pin down where he should be seen to be …

The people of Tennessee have spoken and our legislators listened. Our Governor seems to be on the side of eco-terrorists that donate to his campaign. Well Mr. Governor your tenure in Nashville will be short lived. WE THE PEOPLE of Tennessee have started our campaign as of TODAY to remove you from office when your term is finished. Our vetting for your replacement has now begun. Hope you like retirement. At least we won’t have to worry about you turning on the people that elected you in favor of those that contribute to your campaign. Money will not buy the next election. Game on!!

While it is true there is broad, bipartisan opposition to the United Nations Agenda 21, it is also (unfortunately) true that there has been broad, bipartisan support for these policies. George H.W. Bush signed the original agreement in Rio in 1992. It is disheartening that Gov. Haslam has made a decision to align himself with the “global elite” rather than defending our Constitution and joining We the People in opposing the loss of our sovereignty. Disheartening but not surprising.

You have forgotten that you work for We the People. Once you have forgotten, Your time in office will be short lived.

By NOT oppossing Agenda 21, our ‘elected officials and representatives’ have shown the Tennessee citizens where they stand and who they DON’T represent. I am very disappointed & they will not get my vote. As for me, “I pledge allegiance to the flag, of the United States of America”, NOT – I pledge allegiance to the flay, of the United Nations. Perhaps it is way past the time of getting the United Nations OUT of our Country, and let them set up their base in China. After all, our big businesses are moving there!!!

Time to go
You just got voted in and why? Look what your trying to do the people of this great state of Tennessee. If things aren’t bad enough with Obama being elected and now we have a muslim in the White House, yes I said it. Now YOU Mr Haslam, are turning your back on all of us. We don’t want Agenda 21, we need someone who cares about what the Tennesseans want.
#8 by Elaine on 07/08/2012 - 08:57
You are so so right! Just how do we get this through people’s heads tho. They just keep voting the same people in. Doesn’t matter how many times they screw them over. This goes for congress and senate. Seems people just can’t see the trees for the forest. By the time they find how bad it really is, it will be to late.

This is a sad statement in relationship to our governor’s knowledge of Agenda 21. Anyone who had truly studied the matter could clearly see that the UN is a threat to the sovereignty of our nation. What a shame that our own leaders are willing to betray us in this manner. It is truly time to vote them all out. If they will not support the will of the people they must go.
#10 by Robert Gosnell on 05/10/2012 - 17:49
JoAnn, I totally agree. I am in the process of finding out how to unseat Haslam; either by recall or impeachment. I urge you to contact your TN representative and senator to express your outrage at Halams’s betrayal. I shall never buy anyting from one of Halam’s Pilot stations ever again. He MUST go! As a loyal Navy veteran, I encourage all Tennesseans to join the effort to rid our State of this traitor. God bless.
#11 by Robert Gosnell on 05/10/2012 - 17:32
This is an outrage! The people of the great State of Tennessee have been betrayed by governor Haslam! Haslam should be recalled for his actions. We do not need a globalist sell-out in Nashville.
Recall the traitor!
#12 by Dave Drum on 05/10/2012 - 17:47
Why on earth should this surprise any of us? This governor has made every effort to show just how anti-liberty he can be. This decision of his just confirms it.
#13 by Robert Gosnell on 05/10/2012 - 17:54
Right you are, Dave, my friend. Now, let us find out how to rid ourselves from this traitor in Nashville…either by recall petition or impeachment. Please contact your senator and representative and express your outrage at Haslam’s betrayal. Please post this betrayal on TLA ASAP and let’s get a recall petition underway. God bless.

Ken,
Agenda 21 is not a threat to the United States unless we get a government that agrees with it, something that even the Obama Administration would never actively pursue.
The major importance of the influence behind all the Agenda 21 / The Sky is Falling talk seems to be coming from people who are dissatisfied with the power of local governments to develop zoning plans and other efforts to control or shape growth. Talk to people in places like Rutherford and Montgomery Counties about how unchecked growth ends up being a tax on current residents.
#15 by pam on 05/11/2012 - 09:21
regulation of growth, ie, sewer and such is one thing, INVENTORY AND CONTROL is something else. Can I get an AMEN?
#16 by Kathleen on 05/11/2012 - 14:01
Are you living like a mushroom? Even O wouldn’t actively pursue? Are you reading only mainstream media?
It is not worth the time to spell it all out here how wrong you are; I would suggest you go to Democrats against Agenda 21 or Freedom Advocates and read some of their stuff. Obama is milking it for all it’s worth.

President Obama has signed an executive order placing 16% of the U.S. under the control of the U.N. Check it out. I wish I was making this up.

what did you expect from a ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT Bloomberg Whore

I’m definitely for getting rid of Haslam. He’s already proven way too many times he’s not the “conservative Christian” he claimed he was in his campaign. And he loves new taxes, not to mention Agenda 21. Afterall, when he won the City of Knoxille Mayoral seat, it was only by the skin of his teeth, so what did he do? He hired his opponent in his administration and allowed her (Madeline Rogero – now City of Knoxville Mayor)to apply to HUD for the 4.3 million grant for UN Agenda 21 Smart Growth. Knoxville is also a member of ICLEI. I wrote all about it in this article last year:
http://newswithviews.com/Nelson/kelleigh140.htm
We are now fighting UN Agenda 21 Smart Growth in a five county “regional” area because of Haslam allowing this to happen in his own administration. He is no friend of freedom. If the state of TN allows recalls on governors, let’s do it…Marshall the troops. If recall isn’t allowed, let’s find someone to run against him! If Indiana can get rid of Lugar, we can get rid of Pilot’s Haslam. The guy has to go!
#20 by Tony on 05/11/2012 - 16:44
I agree. I was all for Haslam for governor but am now seeing his true colors. What planet is he living on anyway? Is this liberty? Do we srand for the UN to tell us how to live? We are a sovereign country with the tightestEPA regulatuons in the world. This mumbo jumbo is already hurting our economy. Mr Haslam you represent our beliefs jot yoyr own. SIGN THIS and let the country and the srare of TN be assured that you do in fact have a backbone!

What a sad state of affairs We now see that as Gov. Haslam fails to refute Agenda 21 that he turns out to be a one-world leaning leftist.

He is a One World Government Puke!
That is why he didn’t sign it!
He needs to be tarred & feathered and run out of the State of Tennessee.

It’s actually worse for this sort of stuff to get through because it then fools people into thinking they agree with us on these issues when in reality they could care less. Resolutions are a BAD thing!
#24 by Tami Kilmarx on 05/16/2012 - 06:38
Back during Haslam’s campaign for Governor, I created an enormous file on him (and still have it) and his governance over Knoxville and involvement in SUSTAINABILITY in that city. I dumped that file (enormously thick) on the desks of Ron Ramsey, and various other legislators. At one point, I brought it up at a campaign forum for gubernatorial candidates, and was literally shouted down (by other grassroots orgs there and supporters of Haslam.) The surrogate for Haslam at this forum, (later in a private conversation with him,) had no idea what “GREEN” or “SUSTAINABILITY” was. I enlightened him….to no effect. (Three of us at the forum knew what I was referring to and we agreed beforehand that one of us would bring the topic up if it wasn’t addressed. One of those individuals was Samuel Duck, also a gubernatorial candidate, if you will remember.)
THE REASON WHY Haslam will not sign or agree to this resolution, is because he completely supports this UN objective. He HAS been involved in it for a long time, having served on the “Conference of Mayors,” etc. He is so deeply embedded in this administration and progressive ideals, there is no 6 degrees of separation between him and THEM/IT.
He will NEVER be the “CONSERVATIVE” governor many THOUGHT him to be. He CAN’T be. Many of us tried to alert the folks on the ground in that campaign (and others’ campaigns for governor), BUT TO NO AVAIL! NOW IT IS WHAT IT IS, WE ARE STUCK WITH THIS FOR NOW! AND THE UN AND HASLAM AND THAT BROOD OF VIPERS ARE GOING TO ROLL OVER US LIKE A FREIGHT TRAIN.
I would highly encourage folks to do their vetting homework before falling into a trap with your elected representatives. I am hearing very disturbing information about folks falling in unconsciously with certain incumbents (regardless of their records and behaviors), and slathering money all around, to folks we would not even go out to dinner with, or trust our children with. The homework is not hard to do with this new system CALLED THE INTERNET! IT DIDN’T TAKE ME LONG TO RESEARCH AND DEVELOP AN ENORMOUS FILE ON BILL HASLAM…..AND THEN NO ONE WOULD LISTEN!
BY THE WAY, I ENDED UP VOTING FOR SAMUEL DUCK, EVEN AFTER ALL THE HOOPLA WITH RAMSEY!

I guess you are showing your true colors. That is sad. I voted for you which is really sad. I guess it is true when money is involved. Money is the root of all evil. I will unfortunetly have to vote for another candidate in the next election, if you do not turn away from this socialistic view that you seem to be adopting. I really hope that you see the huge mistake you are making in not sticking with true conservative values. Socialism has not worked in any aspect in the past or present, and certainly not the future. With deepest concerns, Your friend and fellow conservative Brent W. Osborn
