Petition TN’s GOP Caucus to Preserve TN’s GOP Incumbents

01/11/2012
By Blue Collar Muse

WHEREAS we believe that political goals are best achieved via cooperative and collaborative partnerships between the Caucus and Grassroots;

WHEREAS communication between partners is a key to efficiency, team building and vision casting;

WHEREAS electing a GOP candidate does not mean he then belongs to the Caucus alone to do with as it pleases without consideration of others who helped elect him;

WHEREAS the Caucus desires Grassroots support during elections: to volunteer, donate and campaign for candidates;

WHEREAS the Caucus places a high value on keeping seats it is entrusted with;

WHEREAS it seems unwise to work to elect Republicans if we will not work to keep them;

WHEREAS primary and general elections are where the Caucus should focus efforts to remove Republicans, except under the most grievous of circumstances;

and, WHEREAS we recognize our enemy is the Democrat Party and their allies as opposed to our allies with whom we may occasionally disagree;

we, the undersigned request the TN GOP Caucus cease efforts to enact redistricting plans requiring the automatic loss of GOP incumbents, including plans pitting two incumbents against each other in a primary.

We worked hard to seat these incumbents and oppose any Caucus plan to unseat them.

If the Caucus believes such plans to be the best and wisest course, we ask they immediately explain why along with an accounting of alternate options which were considered, and rejected along with the reasons for that rejection.

We do not ask in a spirit of defiance or challenge. We ask in a spirit of cooperation and collaboration recognizing all our contributions are valuable and necessary for success. This seems a reasonable request among allies.

The Dems would ever unseat their own in a redistricting. I would love to understand the logic.

xxxxxxxx, Tusculum, Greene
Do not get rid of GOPS!!

Jake Robinson, Murfreesboro, Rutherford
There is No NEED to draw a legitimate office holder out of office.

Jason R. White, LaVergne, Rutherford

Ann Calabria, Lebanon, TN
All the talk about "having the pen" and this is the result! What an outrage.

Rob Vail, Lebanon, Wilson
This is what we voted for? I don't think so.

Dave Vance, Big Rock, Stewart

Robin Ray, Pegram, Cheatham
This is not why we busted our butts to get the majority.

xxxxxxxx, Franklin, Williamson
Are you crazy? We need to increase our conservative majority. Why pit two incumbents against each other? Who's running the show here, the Democrats?

Katherine Hudgins, Murfreesboro, Tennessee

regina griffith, lynchburg, moore
That these specific candidates (and their support bases) have been disenfranchised in particular is very telling, indeed.

Susan Coyner, Murfreesboro, Rutherford
Need to re-think the redistricting. This is an outrage.

xxxxxxxx, Nashville, Davidson

Janet Arnold, Goodlettsville, Sumner
Why in the world would a GOP State House kick out a solid conservative like Kerry Roberts. Who's side are you on? It was bad enough when we had to tolerate the lines drawn my the Dums ten years ago, shooting our own is ridiculous. I for one am outraged.

Barbara Ward, Murfreesboro, TN
Please reconsider this plan.

James R. Proud, Sevierville, Sevier

Dale Ward, Murfreesboro, TN
Please reconsider this plan.

Gregory Johnson, Brentwood, Williamson
What small people. We finally get a true conservitive and you redistrict him out. Never again call me for a donation to the Republican Party. The party needs a much larget tent.

xxxxxxxx, Kingston Springs, TN
To do what was done to fellow Republicans yet leaving the seemingly "untouchable", Jim Cooper unscathed is ABSURD!

Chris Beach, Murfreesboro , Rutherford
Kerry is a good man and deserves to be treated better by his own party. I am highly disappointed in the GOP.

Ruth Fennell, Gallatin, Sumner
I think that Senator Roberts is showing what a class act he is in the face of Republican "establishment" politics as usual. I am proud to have him as my Senator. He has represented both Sumner and Robertson Counties fairly and equitably, and does NOT deserve this type of treatment. Kudos to Senator Roberts and I will gladly work to get him elected in ANY office that he chooses to pursue! Shame on the people who took these steps which negated our voting rights with the stroke of a pen!

Morton A. Goldberg, DVM, Lebanon, Wilson

Eric Stamper, Hendersonville, Sumner
Who would've thought a Republican-controlled House, Senate and Governorship would result in redistricting a Republican State Senator out of their seat. I'm sure the GOP has every intention of keeping all of that area within GOP control, but what a low blow. I know I can't support this type of political garbage and will not vote for or support anybody who is a part of it.

Susan Redmond, Murfreesboro, Rutherford

James Arnold, Goodlettsville, Sumner
We worked hard to get a conservative into office to representative us and now "our side" is going to dunp him? RIDICULOUS

Jim Sandman, Lascassas, Rutherford
Isn't there any way to avoid booting out Kerry Roberts ?

xxxxxxxx, Goodlettsville, Sumner
This appears to many to be a personal attack on a fellow conservative that just happened not to sit at the 'popular' table. I am disappointed.

Arlene Cunningham, Hendersonville, Sumner
Please re-consider this re-districting plan and have Kerry Roberts continue to be our State Senate 18 Senator.

Mishelle perkins, Murfreesboro, Rutherford

Donovan Ames, Hendersonville, TN

Kara Arnold, Nashville , Davidson

Sally Absher, Knoxville, Knox
I am disappointed that Senator Kerry is a victim of the redistricting. He is well liked by his constituents and is committed to serving in a honorable manner, in the purest sense of the principles of a Conservative Republican. This is a dreadful shame.

J.J. Holloway, Nashville, Davidson

Wayne Leeper, Lebanon, Wilson
More and more I am seeing the need for a strong conservative third party, both locally and nationally. It is time that "The Elite" professional politions, who have controled the instruments of government, be replaced by citizen statesmen. Our founders were not professional politicians. If the "Elite want to redistric out one who represents the people, it is time for the people to vote out the Elite.

Janiece Hamblen, Gallatin, Sumner
After my State Representative made such a big deal of the importance of these lines 3 years ago, it behooves me why she would be party to drawing them in such a way that knocks out Kerry Roberts.

Gay Knight, Greenbrier, Robertson
Sen. Roberts is the most honorable statesman I know. As the Vice Chair of the Robertson Co. Republican Party, I say that this makes me ashamed to be a Republican. Our jubilation with voting in a majority in all the State houses and Governorship were short lived last legislative session and now this. I sense a real revolt if you continue on this path. I second Wayne Leeper's comments. Think long and hard before you do this. There WILL be repercussions.

Bev Maurer, Christiana, Rutherford

Kurt Potter, Murfreesboro, Rutherford
Very disappointing, but considering the direction of the Party I can't say that I'm surprised. It seems that the "Big Tent" Republicans don't believe that the tent is big enough for real conservatives or their ideals.

xxxxxxxx, go9dlettsville, sumner
To paraphrase a quote from Pres Olbama, "We won." Do you not realize that conservatives suffered from the gerrymandering imposed by the liberals last time the reistrictoring maps were drawn. It's OK to take car of conservatives and conservatives ideals.mThat's why you were elected.d You don't have to be dishonest or unfair in your work - I don't want that - but for heaven's sake give present and future conservatives a chance to have a voice in government. Do not unseat Mr Roberts.

Michael DelGiorno, Nashville, Davidson

Kevin Smokowski, Hendersonville, Sumner
Seems to me like Republicans, once in power only know, have a bad habit of committing SUICIDE! STOP! Listen to the people you put you in your position for a change and just maybe this country will stand a chance!

r.m. bisonet, murfreesboro, rutherford

xxxxxxxx, Gallatin, Sumner

DONNA EYMAN, Shelbyville, Bedford
We have been changed to an entirely different Leg one and are unfamiliar with the people elected to serve us. It is unfair for us to not have a say in who represents us and may be totally un-Constitutional. It's been 'rightly' said Rep are the stupid party

Robert Swank, Hendersonville, Sumner

James H. Egan, Hendersonville, Sumner
It has been said that this plan was selected so as to avoid a court challenge. I say bring on the challenges and let's fight them before sacrificing one of our own.

Christine Michaelson, Hendersonville, Sumner
In a day and age when it seems hard to find many honorable people serving the public, this plan would remove one of them, Kerry Roberts. How sad. That he is one of their own, is insane.

Richard Swink, Springfield, Robertson
As Chairman of the Robertson County Republican Party, I can assure you that all of us agree with and appreciate your position on this matter.

xxxxxxxx, Somerville, Fayette

kay clark, Hendersonville, Sumner
I called yesterday, today is the same, leave redistricting alone

CC Smith, Jr., Mt. Juliet, Wilson
Unbelievable that we have to waste our time keeping our "leaders" pointed in the right direction! We have much more house cleaning to do to vote out all Sociotonians operating under R)label!

Josh Williams, Lebanon, Wilson
There is no explanation good enough to describe why you are redrawing a sitting GOP State Senator. You need to get your act together and fix this NOW.

xxxxxxxx, Lebanon, Smith
I'm also concerned about the fact that they took away Macon County from Terri Lynn Weaver - a county which leaned Republican. Seems like the Republican GOP has an aversion to conservatives and, as a result, I'm developing a real aversion to Republicans!

Sherry Ferguson, Lewisburg, Marshall
This is yet another example of why Grassroots folks are as disgusted with the Republicans as Democrats. Both parties are drunk on power, doing all they can to leave The People out!

Andrew Anderson, Murfreesboro, Tennessee
Robertson Co.'s first State Senator in 50 years (long time coming) is easily usurped by Rep.Black and Lt.Gov. Ramsey because Sen.Roberts was not there choice for this office is appalling. If you allow this to happen you send a very bad signal to our grassroots effort who placed you into office to begin with. I ask that you reconsider a Tim Barnes vs. Kerry Roberts match (would prove to be interesting and a vital win for our party).

Natasha Hampton, Hendersonville, Sumner

Iris Rudder, Winchester, Franklin
This is just wrong! Republicans can't stand success. Franklin County went Republican for the first time in history. David Alexander was elected by 67% of the vote, defeated a Democrat for the first time since reconstruction and they split our County! This is not good government!

xxxxxxxx, Nashville, Davidson

Jeff and Lynn Michel, Hendersonville, TN

Duncan Weddington, Winchester,

Charles Jackson, Gallatin, Sumner
Split the democrats. Elections have consequences, don't they? If this is the consequence for supporting Republicans, then why shouldn't we support Dems or Independents. This gives us a great reason to become Independent.

bryan baskin, lavergne, rutherford
The whole situation with Kerry Roberts smacks of back-room politics at its worst. Grassroots conservatives did not work this hard only to enable lack of transparency at the state level and 1970s era business-as-usual moderate Republicanism. All those connected with this decision have seriously underestimated the harm they have done to their respective careers.

James Bowman, Smyrna, Rutherford
Why in the world would you be doing this as it shines a very poor light on GOP leadership in our state.

xxxxxxxx, Murfreesboro, Rutherford
We are upset that 2 of our great senators, Tracey and Ketron, are affected by this! And I hear of so many other reports of disappointment!

xxxxxxxx, ,

Jerry W Michaelson, Hendersonville, Sumner
The GOP may be stupid, but I am not...third party is looking better all the time.

It would be tempting to call these "Rookie mistakes" by Beth and Ron but would suspending disbelief and the known and loudly voiced insistence of Diane Black regarding Rutherford but Beth kowtowing to Cooper and Karl Dean is mindboggling

Dale Stewart, Winchester,

Dana Limbaugh, Decherd, Franklin

Donald E. Rutledge, Pulaski, Giles
We need SIGNIFICANT MAJORITY conservative Republican represention in both legislative bodies and both Nashville and D.C. You can bet the Democrats wouldn't allow redistricting to throw one of their own out of office. What kind of stupidity is being exercised by Republicans to whittle down a hard won Republican majority???????

Billy Queen, Jonesborough, washington

Jennie W. Cowan, Winchester, Franklin
We worked hard to elect David Alexander. Now we're getting beat by the 'Old Guard" politicians. This is a disgrace and the Tennessee Republican Party will not get another dime from me until this travesty is corrected!!!!

Andy Knapper, Belvidere, Franklin
If redistricting goes as currently planned, my support to the TN Republician Party will be greatly reduced.

Kimberly Moffitt, Springfield, Robertson

Carol Medley, Winchester, Franklin
So disappointing, Franklin County finally became Republician after many years being a heavily Democratic County. David Alexander is the best Representative ever to represent our County. We are left to wonder just how this move will profit any of us.

Mike Hart, Estill Springs, Franklin
This plan will cause unrepairable harm to the Republican Party in Franklin County and undo much of the hard work of many in the County. The hidden agenda is obvious to all!

xxxxxxxx, Fairview, Williamson

Carole Mohr, Manchester, Coffee

Rob Huddleston, Maryville, Blount
What has been presented is not what the grassroots has fought for over the past 11 years. And make no mistake about it - this happened because of the grassroots, not the candidates.

LAURIE LONG, lebanon, TN

Drucilla White, Cordova, Shelby

Please do the right thing and reconsider the plan.

JOANNE BRANDON, GALLATIN, SUMNER
WE NEED A CONSERVATIVE MAN TO STAND FOR THE INTEGRITY OF OUR STATE.

    This is absolutely disgusting! Way to go Republicans. And the party wonders why funds are down. I personally don't give to the party any more! They keep doing stupid stuff like this!!!!

      This is absolute proof that Tennessee's Republican political base would rather lose seats to Democrats than have Republiocans elected that they don't control. The "Good Old Boy" network that made these decisions in order to get their "friends" elected or political debts paid is stupid, dangerous and needs to be REPLACED!!!

    We just had a fund raising function for Mr. Roberts who is doing a GREAT job. Where the heck is the money going now? This move is just out of order in a representative government. And you wonder why Republicans are always getting their tail kicked?? This why!! Grow UP!!
